ROUNTABLE RECORDINGS

BEYOND THE SKIN project deals with the broad field of skin, and consists of a laboratory and exhibitions.

As part of the laboratory, hybrid meetings are hold, with the participation of artists, scientists and commentators from a variety of academic institutions, museums, galleries, journals and social media hubs from all over the world.

Layers

Date: July 2, 2024

Venue: Machon Hamaim Gallery

Topics: The skin consists of several layers, each with its own structure and meanings. Embarking from a talk on the importance of the polarity of collagen fibers to skin grafting and on fundamentals of upholstery, participants share existential contemplations on coats and deposits.

Topics: Skin is repeatedly re-created and re-shaped, as demonstrated by the snake's skin and with other animals. Discussion evolved on physical and metaphysical regeneration, and how skin depicts as a marker of restitution.

Future

Topics: Cyberspace is a novel coating developing in our external and internal worlds, led by mathematics and computations, swiveling between future and past, between the human and animal worlds and the various environments on earth and in space. Archeology reveals the past and elaborate on progress, animals demonstrate different emphases and pace, and novel musical instruments, symbolically made of skin, may lead our convoy.

Memory, Movement

Topics: Motion is emphatically related to motion – on the surface, underneath, parts of the body or the entire body. These movements reflect our thoughts and feelings, and as such also manifest our memories. The memory is reflected on our ever changing skin. Cinema is one way of symbolizing the skin organ.

Topics:  The skin is our most visible organ, whose health and beauty dermatology strives for. participants will address relationships between medicine and fine arts, the art and science of wax moulages, surrealism and dermatology and dermoscopy.
